2019 WORKSHOP IN PHILADELPHIA
THE 3-DAY WEEKEND FIGURE SCULPTURE WORKSHOP
with STEPHEN LAYNE
This course is taught by master sculptor Stephen Layne, for students who want to create technically strong figurative sculpture in clay.
“Over my years of teaching, I have found that one of the toughest stumbling blocks for students is that they don't have a plan, a logical progression, and wind up working in circles.
This class offers a structured, sometimes step by step approach for those who want a practical order of progression from start to finish. Not only will students learn how I proceed, but they will also be able to modify that information to create their own approach.
Although the focus is on fundamentals, students will find that creating complex details is actually the same process, in principle, as creating the larger forms. Some anatomy will be introduced, but anatomy in itself does not teach the more important objective. How to logically organize the vast amount of information involved with figure sculpture is where the rubber meets the road. This course is all about a practical, working approach.
Students can expect a dramatic technical improvement in their work. They can also expect to work more efficiently and will leave with a clear sense of what to keep practicing.
This is an intensive course that requires a lot of concentration, note taking, and hands on practice.”
